Ingmar Bergman
I hope I never get so old I get religious
Film as dream, film as music. No form of art goes beyond ordinary consciousness as film does, straight to our emotions, deep into the twilight room of the soul. A little twitch in our optic nerve, a shock effect: twenty-four illuminated frames in a second, darkness in between, the optic nerve incapable of registering darkness. At the editing table, when I run the trip of film through, frame by frame, I still feel that dizzy sense of magic of my childhood: in the darkness of the wardrobe, I slowly wind one frame after another, see almost imperceptible changes, wind faster — a movement.
Laterna Magica (1987); The Magic Lantern : An Autobiography as translated by Joan Tate (1988)
Ingmar Bergman died at his home on Fårö, Sweden, in the early morning of July 30, 2007, aged 89

The wonderful world of David Shrigley
Some photographs by David Shrigley, whose animation film Who I Am And What I Want (together with Chris Shepard) was one of the highlights of Animate Locate, Kim Collmer´s animation art program at Directors Lounge 07. As Who I Am And What I Want are his photographs, a strangely funny but highly unsettling examination of the human condition.

The giant yellow Rubber Duckie
A yellow spot on the horizon slowly approaches the coast. People have gatherd and watch in amazement as a giant yellow Rubber Duck approaches. The spectators are greeted by the duck, which slowly nods its head. The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn't discriminate people and doesn't have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them. The rubber duck is soft, friendly and suitable for all ages!
Florentijn Hofman's massive rubber duckie is part of "Loire Estuary 2007," an outdoor, contemporary-art exhibition now taking place in France that features the works by 30 artists from around the world. All of the work is being installed along a 40-mile stretch at the mouth of the Loire River, from Saint-Nazaire to Nantes.

The Public Power Socket – Plug in l electricity for everyone
Under the motto »jederzeit strombereit« (»electricity – any time«), the Department for Public Appearances announces the exemplary implementation of the The Public Power Socket at the Oranienplatz in Berlin Kreuzberg. Everyone can get electricity as needed, a service that in time of mobile devices becomes more and more a necessity. Thus the Oranienplatz, an empty traffic island, becomes a meeting point, a place of communication and a metaphor for public networking.
The Public Power Socket will be inaugurated Friday, July 20th 6-8pm
(and remains only for a short time till 22th)
