Showtime: Lorenzo Oggiano in Turin

Lorenzo Oggiano, long time artist at Directors Lounge, will be for the very first time in Turin, with the Bergamo's Traffic Gallery's collaboration, a must see, tonight, June 6th, 8.30-9.30 pm | Cinema Massimo, Via Verdi 18, Turin.

Since the early nineties, Lorenzo Oggiano has kept an artistic and theoretical research on biological, sensorial and cognitive mutations induced by new technologies and on new media aesthetic and communicative capabilities, obtaining the Italian and international art criticism praise.
The works that will be presented belong to the video-photographic cycle "Almost-Objects" – wholly produced in 3d based on the relations between nature and artificial – and to the series "Sound Generated Video Modules for Single Channel Output", a work in progress made by audiovideo modules created by the sound.
In Almost-Objects the mutation theme is faced by the artist through the synestetic use of the video: we'll see embryonic bodies, neutral surface primordial forms that with their slow but unappeasable movement will dip the observer into a wrapping vision, as if we'll assist every time to a new life birth, to the birth of life, the first one in that was born in the space. Oggiano, with his out of the common media-technical ability, creates different visions that symbolizes the Birth of the Nature, using software instruments, considered as symbolic tools for the Trick So Oggiano's visual research arises from the old relation between Nature and Technique: however it comes to an abrupt and original, as unusual solution.

BIG BANG - restarting the natural world, a videoprogram curated by Valentina Tanni, will be screened on interference 2006.
interference, an international festival of sounds, new visual arts and media, is seated in the mountains of the Partenio/Valle Caudina, which it will fill with live performances, installations, projections, seminars, free camping, artists and the public. Thus the international artistic vanguard will be fused with the splendid mountain scenes of Campania.
Although interference is tied to the land, electronic and multimedia arts are its driving force: performances, installations, events, workshops and conferences complete the event.
Among the artists are two familiar names for regular readers of this blog.

In the oppopsite corner, five hundred years after Albrecht Dürer’s aquarell drawing of a piece of grass (Großes Rasenstück, 1503 / Vienna), another view at some ‚unspectacular part of nature‘.

The video by Timo Kahlen shows several pieces of lawn, cut out and isolated in a white background, a still life immensely enlarged in scale. The sound of crickets creates a tranquil, natural background. But every once in a while, the image is disrupted by the strong vibration of cars and lorries that can be heard rushing by. Modern nature, however, seems to remain stoical / unmoved and unimpressed or unaffected.

The Quasi-Objects cycle, initiated in 2003, is composed of photographic and videographic materials generated with the assistance of 3d modeling, animation and rendering software.As products springing from digital calculation, synthetic images are free from any reference to optical reality and from relationships of existential references; the possibility of accessing, thanks to them, to plausibility, abandoning at the same time any attempt to a "judgement of truth", not only opens up creative research to unattended plastic horizons but - by inevitably shifting attention from the Image itself to the "knowledge-quota" of the digital model that establishes its Presence (from the output to the process) - we think it contributes to make ourselves positively willing to constructive thought about the relationships we entertain with the Real and particularly on the meaning of Life in terms of a real and autonomous process disjoint from any specific material manifestation, a generative grammar that is independent from the holding subject. In this Sense Quasi-Objects regards actualization of data, production of biologically a-functional occurrences (bio-politically dysfunctional), dealing about Life, but without reference to the outcomes it is used to recognize; possibilities that can be viewed as transient outputs of an operative practice: aesthetics of process.
