Turning the Place Over

Turning the Place Over is artist Richard Wilson’s most radical intervention into architecture to date, turning a building in Liverpool’s city centre literally inside out. One of Wilson’s very rare temporary works, Turning the Place Over colonises Cross Keys House, Moorfields.
Richard Wilson is one of Britain’s most renowned sculptors. He is internationally celebrated for his interventions in architectural space that draw heavily for their inspiration from the worlds of engineering and construction.

Turning the Place Over consists of an 8 metres diameter ovoid cut from the façade of a building in Liverpool city centre and made to oscillate in three dimensions. The revolving façade rests on a specially designed giant rotator, usually used in the shipping and nuclear industries, and acts as a huge opening and closing ‘window’, offering recurrent glimpses of the interior during its constant cycle during daylight hours.
Lewis Biggs, director of Liverpool Biennial, said: “Turning The Place Over will be remembered and celebrated for as long as people’s jaws are capable of dropping.”

From Brakel to MoMA

Little was known about the tiny town Brakel in the Höxter district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Only design enthusiasts knew Brakel as the "B" of FSB. This changed drastically during this years spring when the door handle comics popped up in major german newspapers like Zeit and FAZ. Within weeks the affectionate panels, masterly drawn and virtuosic told by the countess of pure chance, Cosima Reif (shown just one post below), became a cult classic among the german intellectual scene. Juergen Michalski of schindler parent was kind enough to send me some english versions, thus freeing the Brakel gems from the teutonic territory.

Some days ago I had the pleasure to meet David Henry Brown Junior at Pecha Kucha (japanese for senseless babble), a row of short lectures. David, who was among the invited speakers, presented one of his projects, Alex Von Furstenberg, a personal transformation into a famous socalite, that hasn´t lost it´s charme after seven years. For a year and a half David adopted the name Alex Von Furstenberg, a real person and a descendant of German Royality and a 20 $ vintage suite. Alex became a full time party crasher and documented his second life by handing a camera to strangers, thus creating a photo essay about belief and behaviour, art and fame.
